In light of the recent changes to Twitter’s block feature, I like many other people hopped over to BlueSky as quickly as possible.
After sharing some of my most recent work, I suddenly got a massive upswing in followers, reaching the 200 range.
But then I found out why that was the case.
Turns out most of these followers don’t care.
Now I don’t want anyone to get mad at Renee, Tom or anyone else at this, because this was clearly done with good intentions.
But I personally take it as disingenuous engagement, knowing that most of these people just clicked the “follow all” button and don’t even care about what I make.
It made me think about my following on Newgrounds as well, being reminded that that 450 follower count was only because of collabs and trend hopping, I doubt most of my followers even use the site anymore.
This might sound selfish to a lot of people, but knowing that people you’re sharing your work to don’t care or are even not seeing it at all is genuinely disheartening.
I’m not quite sure what to do about this moving forwards, but it’s definitely taken a toll on my motivation.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling with imposter syndrome. I followed you because you were one of the artists who contributed to the Tankmas 2021 collab, and if it’s any consolation, you’ve improved greatly since then. I understand it’s so hard to just grow on one’s own merit, just let yourself feel upset in the moment and (without force) slowly let yourself finding the reason you want to create again.
